Tokyo Kitchen @ Setiawalk, Puchong

Puchong may be an area that I rarely visit, but I made an exception for this place called the Tokyo Kitchen which is a Japanese restaurant to find out how's the food like over there:
They use this kind of call bell that I saw that's located in every table:
The ambiance has a Japanese kind of feel to it, woody and the lighting adds to a nice feel:
They have these wish messages decorated at the front should any of the customers wishes to put up theirs and reminisce at a later time when they visit the place again:
The green tea came in a teapot set so asking the waiter for a refill won't be as often unlike some places:
The Roasted Salmon Cheese Rice which comes in a set:
A fusion type of dish where the set is usually served with Green Salad, Chawanmushi, Miso Soup, Agedashi Tofu that's available for RM28.80 from 12pm till 9:30pm.

Here's my fave, Chicken Katsu Curry Rice:
I always love the taste of Japanese curry but of course it still has to taste right in order for me to crave for more.

This dish is called the Magic Sushi Ball:
It's made up of Red Tuna (top), White Tuna (middle), and Salmon with shrimp roe on top.

The beautiful bouquet of Tairyo Sashimi:
Another type of fusion kind of dish, this is called the Dragon Roll:
On top is Mango Mayonnaise & Shrimp Roe where the fillings of the Maki Sushi is Fried Tiger Prawn.

Some of their assorted Salmon Sushis that's available at the place:
Here's something unique in this place, the Long Salmon Sushi:
And the giant Dinosaur Sushi:
The comparison pic of a normal one with the Dinosaur one:
And something that's not yet available in the menu but is coming soon, their Gyoza:
Also a fried version of it:

Wine Talk with Room Service

The Thursday that passed by dated 21st March, 2013 was my off-day where the cloudy sky sets the mood for me to indulge in wine tasting that happened at The Pressroom, Bangsar Shopping Complex:
Wine tasting rarely happen in my agenda even though I've been known to be involved in drinking alcohol frequently simply because of the lack of knowledge to purchase and consume wine and the rarity of invitations to an event such as this.

I arrived slightly earlier and anticipated eagerly with empty wine glasses placed neatly in front of me hoping to enhance my appreciation for drinking wine:
Basically, there are six different types of wine that we tasted which 2 are white wine, one is rosé and the other 3 are red wine:
Tasting notes were prepared beforehand that describes the wines and what food it's great with.
We tasted them in the order of right to left.
  • The first one on the right was a white wine named Monte de Peceguina 'Branco' from Alentejo, Portugal.
  • The next white wine is my favorite among all - the Arthur Metz Pinot Gris from Alsace, France.
  • The rosé wine is also Monte de Peceguina
  • Finca Las Moras, 'Pacha Mama' Organic Malbec red wine from Mendoza, Argentina
  • From South Australia, De Bortoli 'Family Selection' Cabernet-Merlot red wine and
  • Monte de Peceguina 'Tinto'.

When the session started, after a short introduction, David Stephan, the sommelier of Wine Talk guides us along with his hand picked selection of wines:
We also were provided with some delicacies to see how well it pairs with the wine such as this shrimp:
and roast duck:
and some other meat and bread and pizzas:
Now, what exactly is Wine Talk? Wine Talk started off as a concept that became a reality from the collaboration of Room Service, the food delivery service with Gastrodome, F&B group to La Bodega, The Pressroom and Espressamente Illy.
In Malaysia, there are many people who are interested in drinking wine but seldom explore out of what they know hence the limited few.

Wine Talk takes it's Wine Explorers onto a Wine Journey of carefully hand-picked and pre-selected wines for them to try out which can be a case of red wine, a case of white wine, a mixture of both red & white or red, white and rosé wines.

There are no sign-up fees when you register, no cancellation fees and you can pause your subscription and continue later on without any extra charges. In other words, you just pay for what you want and the wine will be delivered to your doorstep in a monthly/bi-monthly fashion depending on your preference.

'March More Fun' With Guinness St Patrick's 2013 Celebration Pub Crawl

March 16, 2013 was the night that I joined the Guinness pub crawl. It started of at the meeting point of Souled Out in Sri Hartamas:
Despite the heavy downpour mid evening before our pub crawl activity started, Kuah Jenhan lighten the mood with his quips on stage entertaining the crowd who's eagerly anticipating the pub crawl:
As soon as the rain abated to a trickle and eventually stopped, the 200 lucky Guinness fans gathered to be ready for the rare opportunity of being chauffeured in the exclusive Guinness St. Patrick's bus towards Changkat Bukit Bintang where the streets are transformed into a Guinness St. Patrick's celebration village, decked with the presence of Stilt Walkers, Mime Artists, Jugglers, Irish Dancers, Drumliners, Guinness Bikers and more.
But before we begin our journey, a parade to officiate things off!

From that point on, it was onwards to Changkat Bukit Bintang with outriders helping us to clear off traffic for a smooth ride from Hartamas.

Look at some of the goodies that were given out in the bus aside from the St. Patrick's goodie bag that were given before our trip:
Pub crawl passports were handed out to us to collect stamps by completing certain tasks in order to qualify for lucky draw where the lucky ones went home with Ipad Minis and 24 cans Guinness Pack:
When arrived, Changkat Bukit Bintang was truly teeming with excitement and buzzing with a massive crowd which numbered to more than 5,000 people out of the 15,000 in Klang Valley throughout the 3-days.
As for me, I begun the night at Changkat Bukit Bintang with some Guinness over at Never Mine:
From that point onwards, it was pub after pub after pub to check out the various locations with their buzz, Healy Mac's being one of it:
The final destination of the evening (before heading back to Hartamas) was El Rincon where the lucky draw was held:
Just simply put your entry in one of the fishbowl to participate:
Congrats to the many winners who had luck on their side:
It was indeed a truly fun night filled with the festival mood for me.

Fresh Code @ Damansara Utama aka Uptown

So upon arrival on a Saturday afternoon, I paid a visit to a place called Fresh Code which is a small cafe-like shop that specializes in juice:
I've never noticed this place before but I guess it would be due to the fact that Uptown is such a busy place with loads of cars around and it's also next to a shop that places tables outside from it's shop so it kinda drives the attention away.

But the wood & brick kind of atmosphere in the shop would be a nice place for a quiet hideaway from the afternoon heat should it not be drowned by the blender's noise:
For those who are health conscious and love juices, you might wanna check out the menu where besides stating the price and the ingredients in it, it also states what are the benefits of consuming the respective types of mixture.
I've only managed to try a couple of their premium juice mixtures namely the Berry Blast and the Multifruit Vital:
The Berry Blast which is their bestseller contains raspberry, blueberry, blackberry and strawberry which brings benefit to the brain eyes and skin and is supposed to boost energy. It's priced at RM11.90 for a regular sized cup, the dearest of them all (not counting the smoothie counterpart). Tasted to me like a yoghurt kind of drink. The Multifruit Vital on the other hand has Pineapple, Mango, Passion Fruit & Banana in it's mix and is priced at RM10.90 for a regular cup.

The rest of my tasting mostly involves taste test cups such as this High Fiber Pineapple which seems to be one of their popular item as well:
The High Fiber Pineapple is RM7.90 for a regular cup.

Besides Juices and Smoothies, they've also got Sorbets:
Basically, I would say the sorbets would taste the same as their juice and smoothies counterparts just that it's in sorbet form.

So if you're at Uptown and feel like you want something to cool down, perhaps you might wanna try some juices.
The full address of the shop is:

No. 23 Jalan SS21/37 Damansara Utama (Uptown), 47400 Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Paradise Inn, Sunway Pyramid Food Review

The target place for Wednesday night of March 6th belongs to Paradise Inn at Sunway Pyramid.
The swanky looking place is tucked neatly at Lower Ground One of Oasis Boulevard of Sunway Pyramid.

This month, in the middle of March 2013, they're introducing new individual set meals that are decently priced catered for one person deviating from their usual ordering-of-vegetables that usually are more befitting towards a group of people rather than for a person or a couple.

There are 4 main categories of set meals that are of your preference of preparation where each category has a variety of different ingredient types. The 4 categories are Chargrilled, Hot Stone Bowl, Hot Steaming Basket and the Mini Wok.

Before starting off with the main course, we had a taste of their premium Oolong tea where each had their own benefits healthwise.
The 1st of the main course that was tried came in the form of a Mini Wok Set.
It's the Supreme Seafood Fried Rice (RM20.80++).
By the way, each Individual Set Meal comes with a traditional double-boiled soup of the day, a platter of fresh vegetables and side dishes of the day. There's also Homemade Thai Chili Sauce that goes with the dishes.

Another Mini Wok Set that we tried:
The Fried Rice with Chinese Sausages which will cost about RM19.90++. Usually, this type of rice that we are familiar with are served in a claypot but being in a mini wok does not differ the taste inasmuch.

Yet another of the Mini Wok Set:
The stir-fried Udon with Black Pepper Sauce & Seafood.
A lookalike dish as the previous one but certainly does not taste the same:
Stir Fried Seafood Hokkien Mee.
Moving on to the Hot Stone Bowl Set Meal:
The Stir-fried Beef Slices with Spring Onion which will be priced at RM23.90++. The beef slices are tender and the taste are pleasing to the palate.

Another Hot Stone Bowl type:
This is the Stir-fried Pork Collar Cubes with Spring Onion & Black Pepper. The black pepper taste may come as strong to some people but to me, I like the spicy taste of it which adds to it's appeal. Same price as the dish prior to this.

Here's one of the Hot Steaming Basket Set Meal:
This is the Stir-fried Sweet & Sour Pork set.

And another:

This is the Steamed Minced Pork Patty with Salted Fish. A refined mix combination that has the right amount to taste the two different meat and not having one taste overwhelm the other.

Moving on towards the last category of Meal Set is the Chargrilled type:
This is the Seafood with Spicy Homemade Sauce.

We had quite a fair share of the Chargrilled set trying all on the menu. This here is the Crispy Fermenter Pork Ribs:
The Sliced Pork Collar with Lemongrass & Honey sauce:
And the Chicken Drumlets with Spiced Marination, nice one!
We also tried a dessert to finish off. I tried the Mango Sago:
It uniquely contains Pomelo in it which this is the 1st time I'm tasting a dessert that contains that fruit.

As mentioned before, the new meal sets will be available soon so look out for it at Paradise Inn!
