Flight (2012) Movie Review

Captain "Whip" Whitaker, a skilled pilot was just going through another day, living his life with the vices he so grew to love, girls, booze & drugs.

After a night of heavy drinking, he will always take some cocaine to wake him up so that he can get on with his job.
One fateful day, he launched his aircraft heading towards Atlanta and it was just another day's work with his quirky ways. This certainly frightens some people (like his co-pilot) while others are just use to his style of flying (like the head stewardess). Initially, the flight met with some turbulence due to heavy rain in the area, that's where Captain Whitaker decided to head up way above the sky to get out of the rainclouds which he manages. But before doing so, he had made an announcement of suspending beverage services due to bad weather. After charging away from the rainclouds to a bright sky, Captain Whitaker started to take 2 bottles of Vodka and mixed it with orange juice for his consumption where he took a nap after that.

He awaken to technical difficulties on the aircraft and steered the plane to had a much softer crash landing. Due to a stuck tail elevator, the plane was heading towards a nose dive. But Captain Whitaker's quick thinking started to fly the plane upside down so that the plane stabilizes again while the co-pilot helplessly in panic mode as he can't control from his side since the hydraulics failed. When nearing the ground, Captain Whitaker steered the aircraft and tried to roll as much as possible instead of a heavy crash. As the plane hit the ground, Captain Whitaker was knocked out cold when his head hit the steering wheel.

Captain Whitaker awakens in hospital and later on found out that the NTSB (investigators on the aviation accident) had taken a toxicology test and had found alcohol in him where if convicted, it could mean life imprisonment. Hence, Charlie, a long time friend of Captain Whitaker who's now with the Airline's Pilots' Union had Hugh Lang, the attorney to represent Captain Whitaker.

But Whitaker initially refused to cooperate and acknowledge his drinking problem, and shuns everyone and isolates himself away which gives Charlie and Hugh a hard time to help him out.

The results of the findings of the NTSB investigation hearing nears and time is running out. Will Captain Whitaker get out of this situation or face imprisonment? Watch the movie to find out!

This movie had elements that I love in them, particularly booze! What I like about the movie is although it may show the consequences of alcoholism, yet, it's not the cause of the catastrophe but somehow it had to be taken into account due to it being against the law. I somehow like this movie a lot. I give it 4 stars out of 5.
