4 friends off on a tour (2 of them brothers) were going to make their way to Moscow when one of them, Paul, had made a spur of the moment arrangement to go to Chernobyl and had managed to convince the other 3 to go along with his plan where he unveiled to them during breakfast the day that they were suppose to go to Moscow.
They were taken by an ex-special force military unit who now runs the tour business alone called Uri. Chernobyl is a place that was abandoned due to the nuclear reactor meltdown and because of the recent decrease in it's harmful radiation levels, Uri decided to use Chernobyl as one of the place to take tourists to. At Uri's office, the 4 of them were joined by 2 other tourist and together with the 6 of them, they headed off to Chernobyl in Uri's old van driving them to Chernobyl.
After some time driving, they reached the checkpoint towards Chernobyl. A little strange that there's a checkpoint for an abandoned city and even more stranger was that the military guards didn't let them through and said it was closed for maintenance. Paul, undeterred commanded Uri that he insist to enter Chernobyl no matter what since he had already paid for it. Uri suggested that there's another way in which was off the main road and that's where they went.
After a touring of Chernobyl at an abandoned apartment with what Uri mentioned as strange sightings like how dogs came out during the day which is very rare since they only come out at night and also they saw a bear which never before, they were gonna head off back to Kiev but somehow Uri's van failed to start. After checking, Uri found that one of the component had been ripped out and there is no way that he can start the van without it. So Uri tried to radio for help. But even after nightfall, Uri still couldn't get a response from the radio. So he suggested to stay in the van, lock all the doors and stay there overnight and wait for sunrise where Uri will trudge towards the checkpoint to get help.
During the night, they heard voices and so Uri pulls out a gun from the glove compartment and decides to go out and investigates it (surely a daft move which I can't comprehend why he wanna do that). Chris, Paul's brother, decides to go after Uri. After awhile, gunshots were fired and that's when Paul quickly gets out of the van to go towards Paul to make sure he's okay.
Again after awhile, Paul returns with Chris where Chris had a badly injured leg and they quickly lock themselves back in the van. Chris said that there were something out there and that they got to Uri. The blood attracted hounds which attacked the van for awhile but letup later.
Trapped in Chernobyl, will any of them make it out alive safely? Find out in the movie.
This movie has the most crappiest start to a film I've ever seen in my life. I didn't even know it started. Maybe it was a messed up on the cinema operators but even if with the usual film distributor and intro, it still looks pretty crappy as it just dives right in to the movie. I'm gonna give the film the benefit of the doubt and blame this on the cinema operators until I see it on DVD or something just to be sure.
Ok, the intro aside, this movie reminds me of a few films mashed up together. The most apparent that springs to my mind is Hostel. While Hostel is the gruesome film with a good storyline, this is just doing a horror film for the sake of doing a horror film because throughout the entire movie, there were so many decisions and actions that the main casts take which don't seem logical at all to me. It keeps making me wonder, why do they wanna do that? Nobody in their right mind would wanna do that when there are better choices.
I can go on and on on why it's such a crappy show but I'll just stop babbling and get straight to the verdict and mine is 1 star out of 5.
