Just Go With It (2011) Movie Review

Thanks to Cia Wei I get to catch the movie Just Go With It early on Monday, March 28, 2011.

This show is a romantic comedy starring funny guy Adam Sandler and funny gal Jennifer Aniston.

At a young age, Danny (Adam Sandler), was about to get married but while outside the bride's room, he overheard the bride talking to her bridesmaids that he wasn't the actual choice of her but just so the guy she fancies turned her down. Upon knowing this, he ran off from marriage.
While at a local bar, he discovered that having a wedding ring is a powerful way of getting the girls without being hurt. He'll make up sob stories to get the girls in bed.

Fast forward 20 years later, Danny being a successful plastic surgeon has changed his looks for the better and is still doing the ring and fake marriage stories.

One day, while at a party, he took his ring off to treat a boy who got hurt. That's when he met a really beautiful woman whom he charmed without the ring. After a night together, the woman, Palmer (played by Brooklyn Decker), discovered his ring and she was furious about it.

Desperate to win her heart back because he thinks that she's the woman that he wants as the partner for life, he creates a sob story that he's getting divorce and that's when Palmer wants to meet her.

Unable to tell her the truth, he ropes in his assistant, Katherine (Jennifer Aniston), to pretend to be his soon-to-be divorced wife.
After an encounter with each other, one thing led to another which leads them deeper and deeper into lies and ended up with a trip to Hawaii along with Danny's cousin, Eddie (Nick Swardson), and Katherine's two kids, Maggie (Bailee Madison) and Michael (Griffin Gluck).

I always love Adam Sandler's shows which are funny and with a human touch to tug on the emotional strings. So far the Adam Sandler's movie that I like the most is 50 First Dates (and still is) but this one is also a nice watch for couples.

Personally, I'd give this a 3.5 stars out of 5.

Brand's 14-Day Get Smart Event

It was a Friday on March 25, 2011.
I headed on down to Jusco Metro Prima Shopping Centre for the 1st time with a mission:
to attend the launch of Brand's 14-Day Get Smart campaign.

Brand's Essence of Chicken latest promotion encourages it's consumers to take on the challenge of keeping themselves ahead of the competition by drinking Brand's Essence of Chicken daily and over 14 consecutive days, there'll be improved memory and mental concentration levels.

Research has shown that there were marked improvements in one's capability and mental performance once they drink Brand's Essence of Chicken daily. This research is backed by 4 independent clinical studies that were carried out worldwide over which, one of them is in Malaysia.

So at the event launch, after a welcome by the emcee, Mr. Koh Joo Siang, who is the General Manager of Cerebos gave an opening speech:

Some of the things he mentioned is that the positive attitude of pushing oneself to achieve personal best will not only help to stay ahead of the competition, but also to improve oneself for personal satisfaction. He also said that the Brand's Essence of Chicken is the only essence of chicken in the market that is scientifically proven to bring significant improvements to one's mental performance.

Dr. Paramjeet Singh was up next:

and he gave a very detailed and informative presentation. What do you expect from a Senior Manager of Brand's Health Science Centre on Brand's Brain Research Centre.
The centre is based in Singapore and is a key research facility to provide facts and evidence so as to not only show that Brand's Essence of Chicken does have positive results, but also to ensure that it's of high quality to achieve maximum results.

So after a short TV commercial preview for Brand's 14-day get smart product:

the moment all his fans were waiting for, Rynn Lim, took the stage and were introduced as Brand's Essence of Chicken ambassador.

For your info, Rynn has taken up a personal challenge whereby he will compose a song (with lyrics, music arrangement and all) within 14 days! Fans can go over to Brand's Smart Living Facebook page to see the progress.

It was then he signed the wall:

With a photo op:

With the rest of gang:

Then, to the delight of his fans, Rynn started to perform on stage.

The prize giving ceremony for the Facebook Contest winners were up next.
There were all sorts of ages. From the very young:

To the granny!

Even my friend Cia Wei was there:

After some chit chatting with friends at Starbucks, while I was leaving, MyFM crew were around at the stage and having some fun competition giving out prizes.

The Brand's Essence of Chicken is sold in 6-bottle packs of 42gm and 70gm sizes which are priced at RM24.20 and RM39.20 respectively.

There's also the limited edition Brand's 14-Day Get Smart Challenge packs that comes in a 14 70gm bottle pack which costs RM70.90.

During the period of the event, March 25 right up to 27, Brand's booth at Jusco Metro Prima also setup a donation box for the Japan disasters which goes to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Fund for the public to donate. For every donation that is RM1 and above, the person will get a bottle of 42gm Brand's Essence of Chicken. Great effort by Cerebos.

Zouk Club 7th Birthday Bash

After the night of the HP Event I went at Zouk, I returned to Zouk the night after on Thursday, March 24, 2011 for Zouk's 7th Anniversary!
They had these crazy decors on the front with the fun theme to bring out the kid in you.

Somehow these gummy bear lookalike decor caught my attention.

Sitting pretty in a row.
Counter opened at around 8.45pm and we were given a goodie bag:

Filled with some Uber Men stuff and Zouk merchandise.
We were shown into the Terrace Bar for our drinks since the main room hasn't opened up.

Once the main room opened up, headed in there for some drinks.

Zouk's 7th Anniversary, the fun never stops!
And lovin' it:

There were the fun and quirky characters around distributing candy to the people.

Another shot:

Met the Nuffies partying there as well.
When it was close to the officiating time at 10pm, the room is filled to the brim with the sea of people.

Balloons are ready to be released high up above:

The management guys of Zouk ready to pop the champagne bottles:

And when it's popped, confetti and balloons all around:

They transferred it into a chalice for them and time for a photo op:

And then a toast to all:

Nothing much happened that evening, your typical clubbing scene. Drinking, dancing, drinking, dancing.

They opened up the other rooms after that but I didn't go to the other rooms. Couldn't drink much that night too. Somehow, my stomach was a little upset after downing the first glass of whiskey for the night and so I gave away my 2 coupon vouchers for after 10pm.

Was surprised to meet Sanny and Christy there too.
I believe this was the 1st time meeting. They look exactly how I see them in the pictures. LOL.

HP Ignite Your Senses Event

Right after the day of The Eagle screening, the night of Wednesday, March 23, 2011, I went to Zouk KL for the HP Ignite Your Senses event.

Apparently, they're launching some new products that is coming your way.

The MC for the night was Jojo Struys who look ever lovely as always.

After a welcoming speech by Jojo, it moved on to the speeches by the head honchos of HP (and 1 from Intel).
It started of with this guy:

Ong Khung Tatt of HP Malaysia. Better known as KT Ong, he's the country General Manager of Personal Systems Group (PSG). Once he's done with his welcoming speech, this guy came into the picture:

He's from Intel Malaysia. Prakash Mallya is his name and he's the Country Manager for Intel Malaysia.

When he's speech was over, along came:

Charlie Cheah, Market Development Manager of Consumer Portables of HP Malaysia.
She was introducing the MUSE concept which stands for (Materials, Usability, Sensory appeal and Experience).

And last but not least to give his speech:

Yap Chun Wei of HP Malaysia. Erm, I forgot what his role is.

Anyway, I find it quite annoying though that in between introducing speakers they would show a short commercial clip on the TV screens around Zouk on HP. I would find it better if the clip is a longer one shot clip on a big projected screen. But it could be just me. LOL.

Then they started the launch by lighting a bomb like device on stage and fireworks pursued!

and then it's time to introduce the new line of products from HP.

New products launch are the HP Pavillion DV4 and DV6 series laptops.

The new HP TouchSmart:

And the thinnest LED monitor:

Later on, me and Mel check out the products that are being displayed while loads of people queue up for food at the buffet table.

After the queue subsided a bit, I went to the buffet table but unfortunately, the food has finished before I could get to it. So then, I waited for them to refill and grab my food while people moved back in to Zouk's main room to watch Jojo Struys tap dance along with a lucky draw.

Later on, Jacky came to Zouk when the event was over so we decided to go to the bar for a drink.

I know I'm only drinking lime juice but I've already had enough of alcohol. LOL.
Plus all those smoke in Zouk makes me dizzy. :P

The Eagle (2011) Movie Review

I know I pledged a week break, but I just couldn't resist taking up the invitation of a few events these days. LOL.

And yesterday night thanks to Advertlets, I get to watch the Preview screening of the movie The Eagle.

The Eagle is set in the year 140 AD where Rome was the dominant empire and it's rapidly expanding.

Marcus Flavius Aquila (played by Channing Tatum), a Roman centurion, was the son of a Roman commander who led the Ninth Legion. But unfortunately for his father, he along with the Ninth Legion went up north to conquer new territories but was never heard of after that and were presumed dead.
Along with them were the symbol of Rome's honor The Eagle which was lost forever up north.

Marcus, as a garrison commander, hold down his fort well and through his bravery tried to retrieve his patrol troops that were held captive by the Celtic tribesmen. While able to do so, he blacked out after being hit by a chariot and during recuperation from his leg injury, he was honorably discharged.

While watching a gladiator fight a slave one day, he saved the slave's life instead and the slave was given to him.

One day, rumors of The Eagle being spotted up north and hungering for action and to clear his family's name, Marcus forcefully pushed the idea through for him and his slave to try to retrieve The Eagle from up north.

That was the beginning of an arduous and challenging journey for him.

I didn't have much expectation for this movie since the trailer don't seem to depict the movie as an interesting one.

Nonetheless, the storyline and the movie was enough to keep my attention and give me a "not bad" impression. I rate this movie 3 stars out of 5.

Life Abandonment

Yeah, I know I've been awfully inactive recently not blogging much and not attending events at all.
The truth is I'm succumbed and overwhelmed by tiredness. But it don't seem to be physical tiredness (or maybe it is. Been sleeping as early as 9pm nowadays) but rather an emotional one.

I've resigned from my job a while back and things seem to start going downhill at my workplace. As you know, once you resign from a job, you just don't feel like doing much of a work.

From all my previous companies, once they receive your resignation letter, you either just carry out your duties normally or they stop giving you new assignments. But this company was hell to me!
Once they knew I resigned, they seem to pile up more work than usual on me. I already stated to my superior that I resign because I couldn't stand working with such hard to get along with colleagues. It's taking a toll on me because it's making me a very negative, hot-tempered and reserve person. Yet, they wanna do that to me?
There were MANY times I felt like going berserk and just wanted to start throwing and destroying some things but I maintain control. Then on Friday, I just lost it. I slammed the phone down but manage to quickly regain composure before I went too far as to start throwing some things.

That day, I unhooked the phone so that I would not be further aggravated and refuse to pick up any calls that was on my superior's extension.
Bravo to this company. This is the 1st time in my life that I'm quitting a job and I don't feel like doing anything at all. Usually, I would try to help out as much as I possibly can and try to ensure that the handover was as smooth as possible but this is the first time I actually don't feel like I wanna divulge any information. I feel like I wanna do like what the previous guy did, just clean out my mail, wipe out everything in my PC and not pick up my phone if it's from them.

Anyway, let's not delve about this awful company anymore.

So yeah, all this has left me a bad feeling which I'm trying to get out from. Turned down all the invitation to events during this period simply because I don't feel like mingling and socializing. I also seemed to have lost the heart in blogging recently but am still kinda active in twitter at the moment.

After 1 and a half more working days to go, I'm gonna be free from there. Once that happens, I think I wanna take a break in life about a week or so. Maybe just resist in tweeting and blogging. But then, truth be told, I've still been blogging and tweeting actively but not in my main accounts! But rather, I've been quietly blogging about wild thoughts in my mind which I feel that I wanna keep secret away from the public's eye and I've also started ranting and raving emo thoughts in a 2nd twitter account simply because I wanna keep it private and I also don't wanna bring others down with such negativity.

Ah well. We'll see how it goes in life in the coming weeks to come. Maybe I might just quit EVERYTHING.

Beastly (2011) Movie Review

Thanks to Blup-Blup and Cinema Online, I was invited to the special screening of Beastly at E@Curve on March 2, 2011 (Wednesday).
Originally intended to give me the preview to Underdog Soldiers (a RAM Entertainment's production) but somehow I was told that it was being given out in 1 Utama (which I was then at E@Curve). But it was cool. I still get to see a movie. And from some of my friends that were there, they told me it's better to watch Beastly.

So there I was.

Beastly follows the storyline similar to the well-known fairy tale entitled "Beauty and the Beast".
But unlike the original, this has a modern twist to it.

In the original storyline, the Beast was once a prince where one night an old beggar turned up at his house asking if she could stay the night out of the terrible storm. In return, she'll give him a rose but the prince seeing how hideous the beggar is, turned her away. Upon doing so, the beggar (which was an enchantress in disguised) put a curse on the prince turning him into a beast by his 21st birthday (or from the 1991 animation by Disney, before the last petal on the rose falls).

Of course, there are many versions of it.

For Beastly, the modern twist is a handsome successful young chap named Kyle Kingson (played by Alex Pettyfer) who relies on his good looks to rise to the top and has no shamed announcing that beautiful people have it better, getting away with his disrespectful ways and yet still get people to vote for him to become president of an environmental club.

One of his collegemate who's better known as a witch, warned him about his ways but instead of accepting her advice, he played her. That's when she put a spell on him which turns him into a hideous person and will need to find someone who truly loves him by saying "I Love You" to him despite his looks.

Ashamed of her gruesome look, he was stashed away by his father to an isolated house where he staffed his maid and a blind tutor to be at his service.

Will he ever find someone to fall for him in time before his time is up? Well, of course we know how the story ends.

Beastly is surprisingly good to watch but as usual lacks the finesse I always look for to rate a movie really good. This is a noteworthy watch, but I wouldn't categorized it as really good.

So 3.5 stars out of 5.
