7 Japanese Words A Week - June 23, 2010

This week, the topic is vegetables.

1) Vegetable - yasai (野菜, やさい)
2) Potato - jagaimo (
ジャガイモ)
3) Tomato - tomato (
トマト) - okay, so this is a fruit, but hey, I still feel it belongs here.
4) Carrot - ninjin (
ニンジン)
5) Cabbage - kyabetsu (
キャベツ)
6) Cucumber - kyuuri (
キュウリ)
7) Onion - tamanegi (
タマネギ)

Cabbage is kyabetsu and why tomato not tomatosu haha..?

Because at the end of cabbage, the ge is ji sound. Come to think of it, they should put as kyabeji. But somehow, they wanna put as tsu sound at the end which is also close. haha
